The Food Justice Forum is a non-profit organisation dedicated to tackling the critical issues of food insecurity and inefficiency in Bermuda.

The Food Justice Forum will actively engage with policymakers to promote legislative reforms that address food insecurity and waste. Our advocacy efforts are grounded in rigorous research and data analysis, ensuring that our recommendations are both practical and impactful.We highlight the gaps in Bermuda's current legislative framework, including the need for updates to the Public Health and Safety (PH&S) regulations and the Samaritan Act, which presently lacks sufficient guidance on food redistribution to understand what is consumable and what businesses and the public can give as food to people in need.
The Food Justice Forum will collaborate with academic institutions and experts both in Bermuda and around the world, particularly those in regions that have successfully implemented changes in food efficiency and waste reduction. By seeking insights from the experiences of countries like Japan, Italy, and states such as California—known for their progressive food policies—the Forum aims to identify and adapt best practices that can be applied locally in Bermuda.
These collaborations will provide valuable data and guidance to inform our advocacy efforts and help us develop more effective strategies for addressing food insecurity on the island.The Food Justice Forum will leverage data from the Catch of the Day software, combined with strategic communication efforts and key events like the annual Food Justice Forum, the Zero Waste Challenge, and the Donate a Dinner campaign, to generate actionable insights and practical solutions for tackling food insecurity.
By utilising this data, the Forum will provide underserved communities, NGOs, and businesses with precise, evidence-based recommendations and best practices that can be implemented to optimize food distribution and reduce waste. These efforts will result in tangible improvements in how food is managed and distributed, ensuring that surplus resources are effectively redirected to those in need, thereby strengthening the overall impact on food security across Bermuda.
